Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same

(play this while reading this entry)

it's crazy to think that i started this blog in 2006. five long years ago. so much has happened since then, and i'm not the same person. i'm older, wiser, happier, and possibly douchey-er, but that is neither here nor there. i'm going to open a new chapter of my life, and that doesn't include this blog.

so, after much consternation (about 2 mins.) and gnashing of teeth (while i was eating an egg-roll), i have made a decision. this is it folks/my one reader. the time has come to say goodbye. thank you for taking the time to read my silly little bit of the internet. i can honestly say that i loved creating this blog for yall (and for myself). writing the good times, the bad, we laughed, we cried, we loved until our last goodbye. but all mediocre and slightly interesting things must come to an end.

so i leave you with two things, one of my favorite poems (about the kinds of friends that i surround myself with) and one of my favorite songs (one of the best goodbye songs ever and my favorite country song).

there are certain kinds of friends
who can so easily discuss all things,
who feel so utterly comfortable with each other,
see one another's inner soul
and keep faith when things go wrong.

for friends like these,
the length of time
they've been together
is unimportant in determining
how well they
know one another,
and distance means nothing,
for true friendship has
no boundaries.

if we should ever grow apart
in time or distance -
today, tomorrow,
or in the days ahead -
our friendship will still
be embedded
in my mind,
my heart,
and my soul.
regardless of where you are,
know that you have a friend
in me...
forever
-m maxine largman

goodbye, everyone. godspeed.

can you spot the sample?

can you tell what fairly modern day song samples this one? (stolen from reddit)

internet sensation and awful awful song

seriously one of the worst songs ever, but hilariously awesome.

listen to the whole song and lose the majority of your brain cells..you have been warned. and while this video is sucking out your soul, please check out her blonde friend's "dance" at 1:15

hmmm, this will be interesting

i'm not a huge fan of sweet liquors, except for maybe patron xo. but i'll definitely give this guy a whirl.

whew been a while

last week was crazy busy at work and i've been sick this weekend.
not a great excuse but that's all you get.

here are some great pics of the st paddy's day celebration at aces.
fun was had by all, adult beverages were drunk, and good food was ate

the progression of me through the night:

chillin

feelin good

whoa...scary

calmed down a bit

straight ballin

other things that happened:

free corned beef and cabbage

cvd bought a ginormous crossword puzzle book and got a free high life tshirt that should have been mine (those are not related)

i might have had a few of these.

all in all. a great st paddy's day. gooo green!

seriously awesome

Entire movies compressed into visual "barcodes" showing their scene-to-scene color palettes. i want to cover my house in these things.

kill bill 2

so amazing! click it!

these remind me a lot of my favorite art form. abstract impressionism. kinda like pollack and kandinsky. but with the symmetry of mondrian.

crawfish boil

so aces had a cajun crawfish boil last weekend with some free red beans and rice. here's what happened:

my free red beans and rice (couple bowls of this):

mmmmmm: crawfish, potatoes, whole garlic, lemons, onions...all spicy

sucking the juice outta the head....heh, dirty

the aftermath

delicious...

wtf

ridiculous. i am now questioning reality.

saw this on reddit

thought it was hilarious...

reminds me a lot of this scene from pulp fiction:
"yeah, but bacon tastes good, pork chops taste good"
some NSFW language (but you should know that cause it's pulp fiction)

cheat day food

after a long break, i'm back. work is gettin in the way of my blogging, but don't worry, it won't happen again.

the next few posts will probably be food related, but what else is new. here was my cheat day a few weekends ago:

vortex: coronary bypass - half pound sirloin, fried egg, 3 pieces of cheese, 4 slices of bacon, and mayo on the side.

tots and a soft pretzel spiral for sides

my roommate dinner...lazy style

i was up for roommate dinner. i was feeling pretty lazy so i made nachos and potato skins.

nachos: bbq pulled pork, grilled onions, fresh red onions, pecerino romano shredded cheese, pickled jalapenos, and sour cream.

potato skins: chirizo, sour cream, shredded pepper jack cheese

nachos came out pretty good 3.5/5.
the potato skins, not so much. 2/5 (not crispy enough)

musical review: bring it on: the musical

so a friend gave us tickets to go see bring it on: the musical. and maybe because i love all 5 of the films (possibly not number two), that i might be coming at this with a slight bias.

it was friggin awesome. great story, great dialogue, great cheerleading. even the production was outta this world. they had these awesome moveable videoscreens for background, and a wall of synch-ed up led lights. if it's still in atlanta, go see this! 5/5.

trouble with a capital "t" and that rhymes with "p" and that stands for pool!

so me and cvd play in a pool league every week. sometimes it goes waaay too long, but mostly it's a fun time. and mostly i like hanging out with our team. we're a motly crew, but we get the job done.

jumpy, he's crazy good

split beard (cause when he shoots the cue makes his beard splist down the middle)
also crazy good at pool

dr. dre, just crazy at pool

not featured, our fearless leader MA, cvd, and the cable guy. but i'll post em up at some point.

open-faced french bread blt...mmm mmm mmmmmmm

this was a roommate dinner from a while back, but too good to go unposted. cvd whipped these up and they were fan-effing-tastic.

french toast, thick cut bacon, tomamto, arugula, and a roasted garlic vinaigrette.

there was also an amuse bouche of the same thing, but with a quail egg poached on top, that pic will be posted at a later time.

trivia friday!

so me and cvd play trivia a few times a week. i will start bringing you fine people the questions that i/we missed:

(answers in the comments)
so these are the ones that i missed while i played in the pool league on tuesday:
1. what is the most populous city in new zealand?
2. what nba player has the nickname "the vanilla gorilla"?
3. who is the youngest driver to win the daytona 500?
4. what province is ottawa in?
5. from 1913 to 1930 the skyscraper at 232 broadway st was world's tallest building, what retail giant was it named after?
6. name the 5 countries with the most land borders
7. name the last 10 best picture winners with a one word title ("the" counts as a word)

obviously i did not do very well. but i did kick ass at pool, so i got that going for me....which is nice.

these are the ones me and cvd missed at aces on thursday:
8. what shakespeare character said "friends, romans, countrymen, lend me your ears"?
9. what were the names of the two budweiser lizards from their ad campaign?
10. oliver north ran for us senator from what US state?

and of course, we won, regaining our rightful crown, also snapping our 3 week non-winning streak. stay tuned, i might put up a special trivia up later tonight.

i wouldn't make fun of band people, if they did stuff like this more often

ufo sighting

im in the middle of a 4 day conference here:

hyatt regency atlanta with a ufo perched on top

this is my first time being inside this atlanta landmark. pretty nice place, and for anyone interested, the polaris, the rotation restaurant at the top, has been closed for 6 years. also, you can't go up and take a look around. also, also, concierges get annoyed when you ask.

i got to see a skinny fat guy speak (al roker)

yeah yeah, chili contest pics

this year me and cvd teamed up to take on the chili contest.

pre-game setup. all my spices and whatnot on the left, and dan's station on the right, and this year's secret weapon.....POPOVERS!

chili was basically the same as last year, and that was my job
and here are dan's amazing and delicious popovers
which served as bread bowls for the chili
(let's not talk about how many we couldn't use)

the setup at the contest
and here comes my chili contest fuel, high life.

this was taken afterwards, missing kimchee and green onions, but you get the idea

and of course, winners winners chicken dinners
the trophy cvd has will have our names engraved and kept at the bar
and im holding the take home one

3rd place, 1st place, and 2nd place

next year will be a totally different recipe, but for now, me and cvd can wallow and root in our win. woot!

nah. totally unrelated.

teacher unions and test scores.

easy as saturday morning

after a silly night of drinks and 330am frisbee golf. i got up early to go fix a roof with some folks from my church. it was a beautiful day, perfect for hammering, felting, and shingle-ing. also, this was a good start to my cheat day on my current diet. many, many, many carbs and calories were consumed....mmmm. good.

we were working on the guy on the right's roof. incredibly nice and humble.

working!

things eaten on cheat day:

coen brothers, true grit, and a horror movie

rumors of coen brother's next film

am i the only person that did not like true grit? well, didn't like is too strong. it was an average throw-away movie. and no. i wasn't the only one, thankfully i have cvd, who also shared in the averageness. by box office sales, it is the coen brother's biggest hit, which should be a little telling about the quality.

just look at some their filmography:
raising arizona
no country
big lebowski
hudsucker
o' brother
blood simple
fink
fargo
...etc
you get the idea

it's strewn with amazing-ness, awesome-ness, great talent mixed with masterful skill. BUT not a single blockbuster. critically acclaimed stuff for sure, but no blockbuster till true grit. it was something for the masses and not even close to their best work. every single one of those movies i listed is better than true grit. i just don't understand why people liked this movie. maybe it was just cause it was the coens, and they can do no wrong? maybe because it was better than the original (which sucked)? who knows.

but i will say that i would very much look forward to a horror film. in the interview, it seems like their joking, but i hope not.

goodbye guitar hero, we hardly knew thee

guitar hero is thankfully dead, so i can stop buying guitar hero AND rockband games. and honestly rockband was waaaaay better anyway, except for maybe the guitars. also, dj hero is dead. i'm sure all 3 of their fans are very sad.

we are the champions my friends...

i'll post up more later, but this year's margin of victory was very very slim.
some folks really stepped up their game this time around.

also, i'd like to take a moment and thank my partner, cvd. he was a whiz in the kitchen making all the pop overs. couldn't have done it without ya!

also, i got iced after my victory, a 40oz icing. which is a victory to itself.

just an amazing movie...

requiem for a dream. just finished watching it.

i can't watch it too often, but when i can muster up the courage, i enjoy it more and more. probably one of the more disturbing/depressing movies i've ever seen, but aronofsky just knocks it outta the park.

if you haven't seen it, and think you can handle it, please go watch it. be warned, it is very unsettling, but an amazing look into drug abuse, love, family, friendship, and the lengths people can go for each. 5/5.

also, one of my girlfriends is in the movie, which is just the icing on top of a publix cake.

"Juice by Harry, juice by Harry, ohhhh Harry's got juice, Harry's got juice ohhhhhh Harry."

holeman and finch burger

whew. this trip has been a long time in the making. the famous holeman and finch burger. some consider the best in america. and it was finally within my grasp.

so the wiler and i made our way to h&f, which is kinda hard to find place. waited about 30 min and got seated. while we were waiting, we perused the menu, and decided along with the burgers, we would enjoy some of the deviled egg appetizesr and southern cola. and waiting till the end of the meal to decide on dessert.

southern cola:
coke, amaro and a lime juice ice cube. as the lime cube melts it changes the flavor of the overall drink. this will definitely be my summertime drink.

deviled eggs: bresaola, sriracha and pickled sunchoke
i loved deviled eggs anyway, and to add delicious ingredients....wowers

best burger i've ever tried. the only one where i could really taste the full flavor of the meat. fries were crazy good. and the homemade ketchup and mustard outta this world.

caramel bacon popcorn. imagine cracker-jacks but with bacon not nuts.
mmmm mmmm mmmmmmmmm
the bacon bits would explode with bacony-goodness like a fine caviar.

easily one of the best meals i've ever had.
